Hello Parents!
I would like to
introduce myself and share a little bit about me and my background. My
name is Priscilla Barcellos, but the kids will refer to me as Señorita Barcellos. I am thrilled to be teaching my eighth year in the Spanish Immersion
program at Lakeview Elementary. I grew up bilingual in Portuguese and
English, and now have a command of three languages (Portuguese, Spanish, and
English), so I truly believe in second language acquisition at an early age as
being an effective way to achieve fluency. I am enthusiastic about the
growth that your students will make this year in both English and Spanish.
I grew up speaking
Portuguese at home and English at school. I took on Spanish as my third
language in High School and caught on very quickly due to the similarities with
Portuguese. I continued studying Spanish in college and abroad in Sevilla, Spain for a semester. This experience of almost total immersion contributed to the
most improvement in my knowledge of Spanish. Furthermore, I traveled
through other Spanish speaking countries such as Chile, Argentina, Costa Rica,
Ecuador, Guatemala, and Peru.
On my free time, I
love cooking vegetarian meals, going hiking, and staying active. I practice various types of yoga. I also have a passion for traveling. Yes, I have a list and it's quite long. I just visited 5 major destinations this summer in Europe including Barcelona, the Greek Islands, and Croatia. It was quite an adventure!!
I'm very friendly
and easy to get to know. Don't be shy and feel free to ask me any
questions. We just ask that you communicate with me in private or through
the internet so as not to reveal to the kids my ability to speak English.
